Universal's Mardi Gras is an underrated seasonal event. Included with regular Universal Studios Florida admission. Runs select nights from early February through mid-April. Combines a New Orleans-style parade, concerts by national acts, and Cajun-themed food booths.
Chapter 01
What Mardi Gras Actually Is
Three things rolled into one event:
- The parade. Bead-throwing parade with floats, performers, and the New Orleans Mardi Gras energy. Runs typically once per evening, around 7:30-8:00 PM.
- The concerts. A lineup of national music acts performing after the parade. Acts vary year-to-year; lineup announced in late winter.
- The food booths. French Quarter Courtyard area with Cajun and New Orleans-style food. Jambalaya, beignets, gumbo, themed drinks.
Mardi Gras is NOT a separately ticketed event. Your regular USF admission gets you in. This makes it one of the best value-adds in the Universal calendar.
Chapter 02
Best Nights To Go
- Saturday nights: biggest concerts, highest energy, also highest crowd. Plan to arrive at the park earlier in the day if you want both rides and Mardi Gras.
- Friday nights: strong concerts, slightly lower crowds.
- Sunday nights (when running): calmer energy, smaller crowds. Better for first-timers who do not want overwhelm.
- Thursday nights (when running): the calmest. Concert lineups may be smaller acts.
Mardi Gras does not run every night. Verify dates and select nights on Universal's official Mardi Gras page before booking.
Chapter 03
The Mardi Gras Evening Plan
- 4:00 PM: Arrive at USF if you have not been there all day. Light afternoon ride rotation.
- 5:00 PM: Head to the French Quarter Courtyard. Eat Cajun food, drink hurricane cocktails.
- 6:30 PM: Stake out a parade route spot. The route runs through specific park streets; check the daily entertainment guide.
- 7:30-8:00 PM: Parade. Throw your hands up. Catch beads.
- 8:30 PM: Concert. The main stage area near Music Plaza fills up; arrive 30-45 minutes early for good spots on a popular night.
- 10:00 PM: Leave or stay for late-night atmosphere. Park closes typically around 10-11 PM on Mardi Gras nights.

- Lineup is announced in late January. Check the lineup before booking dates if a specific act matters to you.
- Concert area fills 30-60 minutes before showtime on popular acts.
- Sightlines vary. Near the stage = better view, more crowded. Further back = decent sound, more space.
- The concert is "free with park admission" but standing room can fill; popular acts have spillover viewing areas.

The Food Booths Are The Underrated Win
French Quarter Courtyard food booths typically include:
- Jambalaya, gumbo, etouffee, red beans and rice.
- Po' boys, muffulettas.
- Beignets, king cake, pralines.
- Hurricane cocktails, themed cocktails, beer.
Most items are $8-15 per booth-sized portion. Plan to eat from 3-4 booths to make a full meal.

Combining Mardi Gras With A Regular Park Day
Most efficient approach:
- Park entry at 9 AM, full ride rotation until 4 PM.
- Break for food and rest at French Quarter Courtyard.
- Parade and concert evening.
- Exit after concert.
This makes Mardi Gras an "added evening" to a regular park day rather than a separate event.

- Layers: Florida February-April nights can swing 65-80 degrees.
- Closed-toe shoes; you'll be on your feet for hours.
